On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.
Student Name:
Tiffany Bachart
Title of Site:
Fur.ly
URL:
fur.ly
Description of Site:
This site is used to shorten multiple URL's for easier sharing. It is a free site. You can log in, but it is not necessary. There are no ads on the site's homepage. The URL that fur.ly generates can be shared with others to lessen the load and make it a bit easier to access multiple pages. There is not a specific section for teachers and students on this site. It would be appropriate for use in a school and by students. For example, if a student wished to share sites they used for research, they could shorten the URL's on fur.ly and share the shortened URL with their teacher for easier access to the sites. I think this site would be best utilized in a Junior High or High School classroom.
Is it a free site or does it have both free and paid features or just a trial version?
Does it have ads?
Does it allow sharing of content and collaboration? if so, how?
Does it have a specific section for teachers and students?
Is it appropriate for use in schools?
Is it appropriate for use by students? If so, what grade levels would it be appropriate for, in your estimation
Educational Uses of Site
Describe specific examples of how this tool could be used in a classroom, either by the teacher, the students or both.
This tool can be used by teachers when providing students with sites they need to search for a webquest or the like. It could be used by students when completing research,
Review of Site
The site is extremely plain. It is user-friendly and direct. You are required to type in a CAPTCHA code when using the site in order to get your shortened URL. I think this site would be best used in upper level grades, but I found it interesting that such a site even existed.
